Hello all,

Have a 2006 SRX, v6, 184000 kms.on it (114330 miles) MIL comes on after code clear in 2-3 days of driving, Has P0420 code. I have access to a GM Tech-2 scan tool and some prior experience.
I have cleared the code and driven the car as normal for 2-3 hours while monitoring the o2 sensors (all 4) with no apparent out-of-range data from them at any speed/load.
Has anyone out there encountered this same or similar issue? What was the ultimate repair?

Thanks for your help.

Missfire?

Hi
I have had this issue for what lack of a better term missfire
It only happens in 3 gear manual from 4000 to 4300 RPMS and goes away. It does not happen in auto or in any other gear in manual then 3rd and looking at the road and rpms at the same time my best guess out of several tries was between 4000-4300 RPM. If I downshift to 3rd then accelerate it does it. Any ideas? It does it in rapid successions till I upshift
Thanks

06 3.6 rattling noise 5 seconds after startup almost stalls

Trying to pinpoint this issue while I still have the truck. Its only on a first startup regardless of temperature. After starting runs fine then after a 5 second idle it starts to have a horrible rattling/knocking sound in the motor and almost dies then its great the rest of the day. No dtcs or driveability issues just the startup any ideas. 102k miles had severe previous sludge cleaned all of it out and timing chains at 84k miles this just started at 100k miles.

tire problem - need advice

So last year I put 4 same size 235-60-18 continental tires on with balance and alignment at dealer. Had vibration issues, several trips to dealer, no real fix, told me 2 tires out of round and replaced.. most of the issue went away, decided to live with slight issue, 2 tires fixed most of it.

However if I rotate the 2 newest from rear to upfront, steering wheel vibration comes right back. It is mostly good with them on the back only but still slightly vibrating.

Went to continental they said they would warranty 2 more new tires. I haven't had them installed yet and heres my question. Its been 12 months and im at 9 and 10/32 all around. Being that the 2 previous replacement seem to have the issue. . Should I add 2 new in the mix with 2 old? or should I just wait, not rotate and let these suckers wear out and put michelans on? Its hard to turn down 2 warranty replacement tires, but im scared the ride will get even worse and ill be forced to replace 4 now instead of a year from now if I just stay course and deal with slight issue and no rotation.

Any advice appreciated.

Evap Emission Control Syst - Where is charcoal canister?

Where is the charcoal canister and solenoid valve located in the car? How does one get at it in order to replace the valve if needed?

Please see associated posting for question on problem to be resolved.

Not starting/stalling after re-fueling

2004 6 cyl SRX (Calif Emissions) usually runs fine except after refueling when it does not want to start. To get it to start, must pump the accelerator pedal (yes, it's true). It will then usually start but run roughly and continually stall unless you drive w/2 feet and keep RPMs high (1500+ RPM). Even then it runs very rough and smells of over-fueling. This problem "self-improves" over the next 25-50 miles. During this period, it throws an overfueling code and bad O2 sensor code for one of the banks. Also, noted that the idle RPM increases from a normal 600 RPM to about 750 RPM - possibly due to slight over-fueling.

Could this be due to a bad evap emissions control solenoid or faulty charcoal canister? How about the line between tank and canister? Car has 127K miles and these parts have never been serviced. Where on the car is the charcoal canister? What is the easiest way to get at it? Is the solenoid valve at the aft end of the 1-3-5 bank?

Have recently replaced mass airflow sensor (first replacement at 125 K miles) and previously 3 of the 4 O2 sensors.

Any thoughts most appreciated?

Fuel in oil

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have been searching the forum for my particular problem to no avail...maybe my google fu is weak. Anyway, checking my oil this morning due to the fact (as we all know) that my 2004 V8 Northstar SRX drinks it like chocolate milk. To my surprise, my oil level had actually increased since I checked it last, I did the good ol' smell test and it reeks of fuel. Any ideas on where the fuel is coming from and how involved a fix would be? Thanks in advance!

P.S. Mileage is 203,XXX if that matters :)

I notice that while driving that temp gauge stay up in the middle. But when I stop somewhere turn of the car and restart the car the temp gauge goes all the way hot like its about to overheat. I had just replace the eng fans thinking that will fix the problem but NOT. I don't understand why the computer is not telling the fans to kick into high speed while i am driving to cool off the engine. How can I fix this? New York summers is HOT! Heat will do damage to the engine if not fix.

04 SRX AWD Wont Start

Hello,

My 04 SRX 3.6 is giving me issue. I drove it to my GRADUATION today and I ran it pretty fast 80 because I was running late. I parked it and when I came out 4 hours later it wouldn't start:bonkers::banghead:. All the power was working and it sound like it was cranking up but wouldn't turn over. I had it towed home and it started up when the tow truck driver tried it but it was running really hard. I tried it tow more times that night and it wouldn't start then it started a bit later and ran with no problem.

I recently got a tune up and new spark plugs installed. I have never had this issue before and wanted to know if anyone has had this issue and what was done to repair it.

Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated!!!

2007 SRX4 3.6L rear shocks

Need some help or at least knowledgeable information.
The rear R shock on my SRX is giving problems, and needs to be replaced.
The car only have 38K miles on it and was bought new but there it is !
My problem is that I took the car to South Africa with me on assignment, and there are no more Cadillac in ZAF.
I contacted the GM agents in ZAF, who recon they can import it for me at just under $5k a shock!!! That is just not happening!
Is there any replacement OE/OEM shocks available (MOnroe/Gabriel/AC Delco etc.) that would do the job?
I have been searching and all I seem to find is that it is a SACHS part.

Getting the crossbrace unbolted under hood on 2004 SRX

All will get a laugh out of this one. What size socket is needed to unbolt the under hood cross brace on the 2004 SRX? It is the black brace, square tubing, with a slight upward curve that goes from left side to right side of engine compartment, right above the plastic engine cover. I have tried every metric and fractional inch socket I have and nothing fits. Can't quite get the cover off without loosening the brace.

Sunroof question

My sunroof creaks while driving (like many others have mentioned.) However, also my shutters when it is shutting/vibrates about- 6 inches before it closes. Anyone have any idea of what could be causing that?
Also, has anyone here ever removed, cleaned and checked the rollers? Wondering what kind of job that would be.
Thanks in advance

2007 Trans problems

So, we've had the car for 15 months, it has 80000 miles on it. A week ago i thought i detected some slipping but maybe it was my imagination. Not so, last night pulling away from a (slightly rolling) stop sign, the engine just revved and i didnt go. I put it in park, then back in drive and i drove home. No "Service Engine" light or anything has come on the dash. Now, i bought an extended warranty from the car dealership where we bought the car. However upon reading the finer print, there is a lifetime (of the 5 year/100,00 mile warranty) payout for transmission repair (and that includes labor) of $2000....Had this information been in that sleek little tri-fold brochure the salesman showed me, i would have opted for something better. Anyway, after reading other posts about trans replacements, etc in the neighborhood of $3500, i decided to take it to AAMCO instead of the dealer. We dropped it off an hour ago, i followed my wife and she said it wasnt until the last turn into their lot that the trans did any slipping. I just got a call from the mechanic, he said he took it for a drive and at one point, it indeed would not drive from a stoplight. But he managed to wait a bit and then it drove. But...and here's the head scratcher...he just asked me if we've ever had any problems with the entire dash/gauge cluster not working?? Um, no. He's gonna look into it and get back to me.

**He just called before i'm posting this, said he found just a blown fuse, and replaced it. Dash/gauges are fine. But why did that even happen?

Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Cooling Problem after Timing Chain Replacement

$

Hi all,

I have been reading and learning from the forums for a couple of years. Last weekend I replaced the timing chains on my wife's 2005 SRX 3.6L V6 LY7. I replaced the water pump and thermostat. The timing chain part went fine. The motor is much quieter now.

I followed the factory "special coolant filling" instructions.

They are essentially:
Remove the upper radiator hose and fill with 50/50 mix.
Fill overflow bottle to 1" above full cold mark
Run engine for 3 mins with throttle advance to 3,000-3,5000 RPM
Check coolant flow through overflow bottle
Repeat steps if no flow through overflow bottle

There is no coolant flow through the overflow bottle. The radiator hose is full of anti-freeze, so I tried to run the engine with rpms to 3-3.5k.

With the engine hot and idling, the upper radiator hose is not pressurized. You can easily flatten it with your hand. It does get very hot. If I flatten it I see coolant spray into the overflow tank.

Yesterday, my wife drove the car for about an hour. When she arrived she said it smelled "hot" and the check coolant level message came on the interior display. Temperature gauge stayed right in the middle; it's normal position.

Last night, the coolant was about 1" below the full cold mark. I attempted to perform the factory filling procedure, but the upper hose was full of coolant and running the motor produced no coolant flow through the overflow tank.

The upper hose is still soft with the engine running. It seems that it is not pressurizing. I see (and feel) no leaks, but I have not yet raised the car to do a better inspection on the rear of the motor.

Can someone suggest something else I need to check or do? At this point I am stumped. I have added 9 quarts of coolant to the system so it should be full. I removed about 9 while doing the timing chains.

Thank you,
James

Recently I have been chastised for speaking out about problems I have had, as a member of the forum(a supporting member at that) I can write what is wrong with MY SRX and write opinions about it, in relevant threads, as long as its not offensive in language or point to other members rudely. No member needs to harassed by another member. If that member does not like my opinion about something they can write a constructive reply. I do not need to read name calling and for lack of a better word "bullies". Yes I have had a lot of faults with the car in the past few months, which has cost me thousands of dollars over time since purchase. Do I have a right to be critical "YES". Do I have a right to write about it "YES"! as long as its not offensive. Saying negative things about the SRX is not offensive. Sure there are some great running SRX's out there. Have I given up on MY SRX. "NO". Am I still hanging in there hoping the last fix will be the "LAST" "YES". There seems to always be one member that wants to run the forum their way. Sorry pal this is a public forum. As your country has fought so hard and many soles have died to achieve, I think you should be ashamed of yourself for criticizing someone for using that freedom

Transmission bypass valve removal due to "Hot Trans Idle Engine error"

$

I have a 2004 srx V8 and I have just change my transmission oil. driving for only around 300km and I notice my transmission fluid life is down to 96%. Before I have read about the 2004 model having a bypass valve for the transmission line that was remove on the 2005 model because it was susceptible to getting stuck in the close possition. I have this car for 3 years already and have change the transmission oil twice already. I also read that the transmission cooler lines can be replace by the newer kind which does not require the bypass valve.

Has anyone experience the process of replacing the transmission cooler lines. Is there a way to check if my transmission fluid is circulation properly or determine if my bypass valve is stuck in the close position.

I don't know maybe I need to replace my transmission coolant first before replacing the transmission cooler lines. I also took a picture of what I think is the bypass valve.

I think i must be going mad , trying to change the oil but something is telling me somethings not quite right.
I have been changing oil on my cars for the best part of 30 years but not seen the underside like the srx, wheres the oil pan , im used to a great big black sump.

oil filter , not a problem , i can see it at the top on the side.

but the oil drain bolt. i think i found it , but researching not 100% and wondering if the UK models are slightly different to the US ones.

some posts say this is correct , but some say not this one.

so can someone tell me if i am looking in the correct place , i think i am but like i said , having a brain lapse and not sure.

also what type of oil is more suited as my manual does not seem to specify i know its 5w-30 , but fully synthetic or semi-synthetic.

any help very gratefully received.

European Spare parts for the 2005 SRX V8

dear community,

I own a 2005 SRX V8 with only 95.000 km on the clock and just had it returned after a shocking series of repairs (or attemps to) from one of the few Cadillac dealers here in Holland.
It went in with only regular service te be done and some noise from the back. (bearings...)

After consult the total bill would be close to €5000 (that is aprox USD 6600)
all 4 shocks were leaking, and since these are equipped with that socalled levelling system...

costs : €1000 per shock !!
rearbearings both bad: €453
brakes all around in poor shape: € 300 per disc
dvd nav will not update firmware: €400

needless to say I was shocked about this. the bearings had to be done, and alas I have no time to get the parts over from the US. Due to MOT requirements leaking shocks are not permitted...
You might think this car is a battered down vehicle, but I assure you this car looks and feels like new and we are the second owner since new. It is our family cars so we don't drive that much, merely around town.

I have driven Lexus for 11 years but really never, never have I encountered a bill that high: to put it different 1 year of cadillac stands for 5 years Lexus.
Unbelievable.

Can anyone put me on the right track where to buy GM parts: we as a company import many American goods and I see that this is the least of my problems.
But getting the right parts...(I saw two different partnumber for the rear bearing at Autozone.)...does the VIN code give me the info requested?

Who can help?
many thanks
